I know, I know-safe sex is one of those topics that can be sort of a buzz kill-no more so than finding out that you have an STD though! So stop your groaning and read on for information that is crucial whether you like it or not!
The sad reality is that sex can kill when not practiced safely. It's terrible and yes, unfair, but it is a fact. Unsafe safe puts you at risk for so many things that it simply is not worth the gamble: STD's including HIV/AIDS, unwanted pregnancy and even HPV which could lead to cervical cancer.
As someone who is here to advocate condom use, I probably shouldn't admit it, but it's true: having to put on a condom can be a bit of a kill joy-if you let it that is! I don't blame the condom, but rather the people who use them for letting this necessary precaution get in the way of their pleasure. Sex is as great as you both make it and the same goes for safe sex.
The first step in learning how to make safe sex fun is to get rid of the negative attitude when it comes to condoms. You wouldn't rag on the lifeguard for jumping into the water and saving your life, so why on Earth would you curse the condom for doing essentially the same thing?? Get it into your head that condoms are a must and just as much a part of sex as your genitals! Make the most of it-easily done thanks to condom makers who have come a long way in recent years. The hundreds of different condom types available make it far easier to find one that works well for you and your partner.
Many men complain that stopping mid-play to put on a condom causes them to lose their erection. To avoid that, keep your condom supply close by and make sure you remember to keep them on you or near you when you're likely to get some; this way you're saving some precious nooky time! Also, putting on a condom doesn't mean you and your partner have to stop with the foreplay and get all clinical-like! Have your partner continue to kiss you, lick you or stroke you as you slip the condom on. Girls: step up to the plate and put the condom on for him and make it as sexy as can be: once you have it on the head, use one hand to roll it down while the other squeezes his balls. Or my personal fave: get the condom part way down, wrap your lips around the head of his penis and slide down using enough pressure to unroll the condom down with you. Yum!
Speaking of "yum"; safe sex is also a must when it comes to oral sex. Flavored condoms make giving head a delicious and safe experience. Cut one in half and use over the vagina when going down on her. Alternatively, dental dams are available for this as well.
And a tip for sex toy users: if you are planning to share your toys; remember that safe sex should be practiced here as well. Keep your toys as clean as can be and slip a condom over them before passing to partner/partners.
Being safe and healthy IS sexy, so stop griping and get to enjoying already!
